Ukraine Sends Foreign Minister to Meet and Thanks Cambodia PM

Phnom Penh: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine arrived in Cambodia to meet and thank the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen for his support for Ukraine from the Russian aggression.

In a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning, November 9, 2022, Mr. Dmytro Kuleba celebrated the 69th Anniversary of Cambodia's Independence Day, thanked PM Hun Sen as the chair of ASEAN on his clear position on the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Assistant Prime Minister Eang Sophalleth told reporters: "His Ecellencey Kuleba also thanked Cambodia for supporting the issuance of a statement by ASEAN foreign ministers expressing concern over the situation in Ukraine, which calls for an end to the conflict immediately and negotiate to end the war and also Cambodia to be a founding supporter of the UN General Assembly resolution on the invasion of Ukraine."

Kuleba praised Cambodia for recovering from the war and building a country as developed as it is today, saying that this is Ukraine's dream.

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, said that Cambodia is a country that has gone through a war that can understand the feelings of the people of Ukraine today. He stressed that Cambodia's position on the Russia-Ukraine war is in respect of international law, and that Cambodia also opposes the invasion and threatens its independence and territorial integrity.

Prime Minister of Cambodia hopes that the people and Ukraine can achieve peace and development in the near future.

Cambodia has been a staunch opponent of Russian aggression, voting against the invasion and demanding that Russia withdraw its troops from Ukraine. However, Cambodia does not support sanctions against Russia. Consider that sanctions against Russia will cause more losses.

In a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine on November 2, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed regret over the loss of life due to the war in Ukraine, as he told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky that "there is no war.
